Personal Development Challenge Week 20: Are You Putting Enough EFFORT Into Your Desires? Part 3 of 3

Continuing onto part 3 of “Are You Putting ENOUGH Effort Into Your Desires” comes the attribute of “passion” in this series: ARE YOU GOING ALL OUT OR ARE YOU JUST GETTING BY?  As stated earlier in part 1 of the blog attitude is important as it will help you find the right mind frame to keep moving forward and attitude will help you link a fuller “passion” towards the task.  In working consistently towards the right life attitude, and asking the right questions of “why”, the next question is: do you go towards your goals with an unexcited laborious walk or with a full out run?

Are You a 9-5er in Your Life Too?
In life it is easy to get by, you can go to work and go thru the motions and get by without anyone knowing any different.  It is easy to get trapped in the 9-5 mentality of life. “If I just put in my time, that will be good enough.”  However, life is not 9-5 it is 24/7 and the people who are happiest in life are those who give their all in their work, their play, their family time, or whatever other priorities they have set in front of themselves.

The question that is begging to be asked is: as you look at the whole of your life, do live your life with a 9-5er attitude? Just trying to punch in the minimum amount of time needed to get thru the day by just showing up, or are you someone who wants to live their life to the fullest in every situation they encounter? This is not a judgment call to make yourself feel bad if you aren’t living up to your standards, but a call to awareness that you are not where you want to be.  The great thing is now that you are aware you have a better chance of doing something about it.

To be satisfied in life you have to know what you want, you may not have all the answers, but if you are willing to put in the effort towards your visions (physical, mental, and spiritual) you will find more satisfaction in life; instead of just hoping for things to get better for you.  A difficult task yes, but a worthwhile one! So are you doing just enough to get by in life, and if you are is that good enough for you???

What Does Your Life Statement Say About You?
Is just getting by the statement you want your life to make?  For some it is; and I am not here to change people who don’t want change.  Of all the stories I have heard from people who have had relatives, friends, or strangers on their deathbeds I have NEVER heard anyone confess that they said “I wish I had more money, more cars, more things.”  Death can bring a better perspective on life and what really matters I think.  People wish they had taken chances; and if nothing else failed and kept moving on instead of being scared and not trying.  In my opinion those who lead lives they love are the ones who take chances! Not that they don’t fail, but they are WILLING to fail and learn.

Do you go towards EVERYTHING in your life with passion? And not just towards the things you like, it’s easy to work towards something you enjoy, but do you give your best towards the so called mundane things that are mandatory in your life as well? A great mentor of mine was an amazing professional hockey player, and I will never forget a lesson I was privileged to hear from him.  He said the reason for his success was his preparation.  He treated practice as a game. He did the visualization before, during and after practice.  He treated practice seriously as he went full out not just in the time on the ice but also off of it.  Sometimes, I think we treat life as a dress rehearsal. Yes it’s ok to go thru life and say I am willing to make mistakes, and we will, but in my experience I have found some may be going so timidly thru life waiting for life to happen to them.

What Are You Bringing To The Table?
There seems to be a common desire where people “want” to be passionate about something! They want to have more meaning in their life, and they want to make a difference.  To have passion you have to bring that passion, and you have to bring that passion to everything you do. Life is like passion: to have a great life it is not about waiting for passion to happen or expecting someone else to bring it to you but jumping in…totally, immersing all of yourself; preparing for the faults, the blessings, the surprises or whatever may come, not just dipping your toes in timidly. In my experience people are accustomed to their routines and there is this fear of the unknown.  That’s the beauty of life, no matter what your routine is life is anything but.  Life is a wild rollercoaster ride that we decide to be afraid of or buckle in and put our hands up and ride the turns out whether laughing or screaming for our life… literally. ;)

Do you take passion to all you do: your job today (You will have more enjoyment to the laborious task you hated once before. You will find you enjoy it), in your family-bringing all your attention and love, towards yourself by building yourself up with positive thoughts instead of negative non-constructive ones?  You have ONLY one go around… do you want to regret missing out and just surviving the days, or do you want to go purposefully and energetically MAKING your life happen with passion in all you do. Buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride whether you decide to participate or not-it still will be happening. Let’s enjoy it with passion and effort to go stumbling forward in the balancing act of life taking in ALL the amazing blessings of this life. Even the so called mundane events.  For when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change.
